Dr. David Stallings, owner and founder of Cornerstone Physical Therapy and Wellness, is originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. His specialty is working with orthopedic injuries involving the knee, shoulder, and spine, and sports performance rehabilitation. Dr. Stallings uses a unique manual therapy approach to all of his patients. He has provided offseason training for the Carolina Hurricanes. He also has experience as the primary clinician for a home health agency, skilled nursing facilities, school system pediatrics, and neuromedical facility rehabilitation. In his zeal for education, he has served as a clinical instructor for multiple NC Physical therapy programs. Dr. Stallings uses his wide range of experiences to treat patients of any age.
When he is not working, Dr. Stallings is active in many sports and enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife Chelsea, a RN in the Pediatric ICU. They reside here in Bluffton and love the lowcountry!
Originally from Raleigh, NC, Dr. Cole earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington followed by his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from East Carolina University. Post graduate studies include an intensive, eight month series of courses to become a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist and a specialist in the state-of-the-art technique of Trigger Point Dry Needling. Dr. Cole specializes in the treatment of fibromyalgia, tension-type headaches/migraines, and myofascial pain syndrome. He also works with patients who have back and neck pain, joint replacements, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, chronic pain, and most orthopaedic conditions.
In his spare time, Dr. Cole enjoys football, and working out, and spending time with his rescue dog named Shiloh.
Dr. Andrew Heffern graduated from East Tennessee State University in 2007 with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He worked in Chattanooga, TN for the first 7 years of his career specializing in treatment of adolescent and high school athletes before moving to Bluffton in February 2015. Dr. Heffern has been certified as a Sports Certified Specialist which is one of the few specialties recognized through the American Physical Therapy Association. He has experience working for the University of Tennessee athletic program and he volunteered working with Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga. Dr. Heffern also is a Certified Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) physical therapist. He has been trained to perform golf specific injury assessments for golfers of all ages. Dr. Heffern also enjoys working with patients who have pain and dysfunction in their spine. He is certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment of the spine, also called the McKenzie Certification. Dr. Heffern enjoys golfing, baseball, watching University of Tennessee football, boating and anything that has to do with being outside. He has taken up running and has started training for Triathlons in his spare time.
Originally from Augusta, GA, Dr. Motes earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation Sciences from Armstrong State University in Savannah, GA. He also lettered on the men’s golf team four years, earning Academic All-American honors. He continued his post-graduate studies at Armstrong State University earning a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Dr. Motes is experienced in treating orthopedic conditions such as joint replacements, spine dysfunction, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle injuries, neurological conditions, and sports specific injuries. Matthew has a passion for helping his patients return to golf safely and successfully.
In his spare time Matthew enjoys golfing, exercising, reading, eating out, and hanging out with friends and family. Matthew is married to Caitlin, who is also a physical therapist and they reside in Savannah, GA.
Originally from Tennessee, Dr. Kate completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Tennessee State University in 2016. Her areas of interest for treatment are orthopedic knees, hips, ankle and foot due to being a previous soccer player. Her long term interests lie in continuing her education in a specialty of Women's Health and manual physical therapy skills. She is also interested in developing a post cancer treatment program to educate and assist women in regaining strength, flexibility and confidence in their upper bodies. In her spare time, Kate is learning to play golf, exploring Bluffton and Hilton Head, and assisting her father renovate his retirement home in the area.
Physical Therapy Assistant
Stephen holds a Bachelor's Degree from Texas A&M University which he earned in 2004. He then went on to earn his degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant from South University. Before joining Cornerstone Physical Therapy and Wellness, he worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, GA., spending most of his time aiding in the rehabilitation of orthopedic patients. A self-admitted ‘gear head,’ Stephen enjoys anything with four (or two) wheels and tinkers on his project cars in his spare time. Originally from Houston, Texas, Stephen has been a resident of the Low Country since 2006 and currently resides in Historic Savannah with his wife Christine.
Originally from the greater Charleston area Kevin earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from the University of South Carolina at Columbia. While there he worked with many of the university's varsity teams including football, baseball and track and field. Following his time in Columbia, he completed a graduate assistantship with the College of Charleston providing medical coverage for their Division 1 men’s and women’s tennis teams and their nationally ranked sailing teams. As an athletic trainer, Kevin is not only skilled in injury rehabilitation, but also in injury prevention and emergency medical care. He has regularly covered large athletic events such as the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, SC and the Boston Marathon. He brings his skills to the Cornerstone team creating a sports medicine outreach for the clinic. Kevin spends much of his time at work with John Paul II High School, providing on field sports medicine for their athletic program.
In his free time Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife Jessie, watching college football and spending time outdoors on the water.
Originally from Sicily, and growing up in New York, Giovanna has lived in the Lowcountry for 7 years. Giovanna has been licensed in massage therapy for 15 years. Her commitment and passion to serve others began at a young age and came to fruition thru the application of massage therapy techniques combined with her expertise in clinical work. She uses a very personalized approach with all her clients, listens to their needs, and applies her massage skills accordingly.
Giovanna holds a certification in Manual Lymphatic Drainage/Complete Decongestive Therapy. Her structural integration, combined with mind-body therapies, and movement education have provided her with extensive massage therapy experience.
She treats a wide range of clients. She regularly treats diagnoses such as arthritis, figromylgia, sports injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck, back or shoulder pain, headaches/migraines, and lymphatic drainage. She has also worked on professional athletes in preparation for the NFL Combine. Giovanna treats all ages of clients, from pediatrics to the elderly.
Giovanna feels blessed and is very grateful to have the opportunity to serve her community as a massage therapist. In her spare time she enjoys being with her family, friends and sometimes just her quite time.
Felicity is originally from Carthage, NC. She graduated from Sandhills Community College with her A.A.S. in Medical Office Administration in 2013. While in college, she worked in a physical therapy clinic as a transcriptionist and has continued to work in the field upon graduating. She has been in the low country since 2015. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs, Shelby and Shiloh, as well as painting and doing other arts and crafts.
